Earthquake Coverage
One of our goals at United Insurance is to provide insurance information to you so you can customize your insurance coverage to meet your needs. Last week Hollis, Maine was the epicenter of a 4.0 earthquake which shook most of New England. Did you know that this is the sixth earthquake to hit Maine in the last twelve months?
Some Questions You May Have Asked:
Does my insurance policy cover earthquake damage?
Earthquakes are not covered under standard homeowners, renters, or business policies. You must purchase extra coverage for earthquakes. Coverage for other types of damage that may result from earthquakes, such as fire and water damage due to burst gas and water pipes, may be provided by standard home and business insurance policies. Automobiles are covered under the optional “other than collision” portion of your auto insurance policy.
How do I get earthquake coverage?
Earthquake coverage is generally available as a supplemental coverage to your standard homeowners, renters, or business policy.
What is the cost of earthquake coverage?
Premiums vary based on your building’s construction and proximity to a known earthquake zone. Generally, for a home with $200,000 in coverage, the annual premium would be about $50.
Please contact your United Insurance Agent for a comprehensive review of your current insurance coverage. We are here to assist you with all your insurance needs and can advise you whether additional earthquake coverage is right for you.

Slips and falls, both interior and exterior, are a leading cause of both employee and public injury; either at work or those patronizing a business. Injuries range from minor bruises, to major sprains/strains and debilitating injuries. That means costs range from hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars; not to mention loss of key employees, food customers, potential sales and PROFITS. Full article appears in the link below.

Is It Time to Consider Earthquake Coverage?
Earthquakes and California go together. Or at least that’s what most of the country thought until Tuesday’s East Coast earthquake centered in Virginia.
Reports of the earth moving were widespread, coming from New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Georgia. Even a few came from as far away as Chicago.
Although no news of significant damage emerged, such a widespread impact raises questions about preparedness and insurance coverage. That’s because earthquake damage is not covered under standard homeowners or business insurance policies.
