Top 5 Reasons You’ll Love Working at United Insurance

Thanks to unprecedented growth the last three quarters (including our first-ever office in Massachusetts and our acquisitions of Gallagher Insurance, Kimball Insurance, and Barresi Financial), we’re seeking candidates for several exciting career opportunities here at United Insurance. The positions available range from entry-level to executive leadership in our Portland, Bangor, Rumford and Fort Kent offices in both Personal and Commercial Lines.

Whether you’re frustrated by the lack of growth opportunities at your current insurance agency or ready to take your customer service skills to the next level with a company that takes care of its people, there’s a lot to love about a career at United Insurance. Each of our 200+ team members have their own reasons why they look forward to coming to work, but based on our recent employee satisfaction survey, here are the Top 5:

Since becoming our CEO in ’21, Zack Frechette has ushered in an era of unprecedented growth at United Insurance earning him a place on MaineBiz’s annual 40 under 40 list last year.

1. It’s great to work at a growing company

Thanks to our team’s ability to build extraordinary relationships and earn referrals from satisfied clients, United Insurance has grown from 134 employees to over 200 in just the last few years. More happy clients, means we need more dedicated people to help us provide the outstanding service they expect and deserve. It also means more opportunities to take on bigger responsibilities and grow your career.

Pete Clavette is the ultimate example of career growth at United Insurance. Beginning as a Commercial Producer and Assistant Manager in 2005, Pete is now a Partner, Senior Vice President and was just elected Chairman of the Maine Insurance Agents Association.

2. Small business culture with big company benefits

If you like being part of a team where everybody knows everybody while enjoying benefits like a 401k plan with company match, a hybrid work schedule, Paid Time Off, floating holidays, 8 hours of volunteer time off, and of course, comprehensive insurance options, United Insurance ticks all the boxes. You’ll work closely with the people in your office while having the ability to get answers and advice from colleagues in 17 other locations. It’s truly the best of both worlds.

Every United Insurance employee receives 8 hours of Volunteer Time Off to give back to the nonprofit organization of their choice like Diana Poirier of our Presque Isle office recently did with Junior Achievement of Maine.

3. We’re serious about work/life balance

Our retention rates prove we take very good care of clients, but we believe wholeheartedly in putting our families’ needs first. At the very least, that means being home for dinner every night and being there for important moments in your partner’s or children’s lives.

Each of our 18 offices receives phone support from other offices so they can enjoy a group summer outing and holiday party. Our Farmington office BBQ plans were rained out but they enjoyed lunch at The Quarry Tap Room in Hallowell followed by axe throwing at Hatchet House in Augusta.

4. We like to have fun (but respect boundaries)

Summer outings, holiday parties, team lunches, ice cream truck visits, community service projects, parade floats—these are just a few of the ways our 18 offices come together during and outside work hours to have fun, show appreciation, and give back. Every office is different, but we are all “united” in our desire to provide every member of our team with more than just a paycheck.

When the Maine Insurance Agents annual convention rolls around each April, we show up in force with account managers, support staff, and account executives from every office. It’s all part of our commitment to staying on top of our ever-changing industry and giving our people to grow.

5. Our mission is to become the most trusted insurance agency in the Northeast

At United Insurance, our growth is the by-product of our integrity. We’ve built our company from a single office in Fort Fairfield, Maine to the 200+ person organization it is today one satisfied client at a time. Our goal is not to become the largest independent insurance agency, just the most trusted. It makes for the kind of workplace where every promise made is a promise kept, and long-term relationships are never compromised for short-term gain.
